How Long Do Botox and Fillers Last? Holiday Scheduling Guide
How Long Does Botox and Filler Last—and When Should You Schedule Before the Holidays?
By Dr. Bahnmiller, Columbia Shores Regenerative Health
The holiday season has a way of sneaking up on all of us. One minute you're thinking, "I'll schedule that appointment soon," and the next you're two days out from Thanksgiving wondering if there's time. There is—but only if you plan ahead.
One of the most common questions I hear this time of year is: "How long does my Botox (or filler) actually last, and when do I need to come in to look my best for the holidays?" The answer depends on what you're treating and which product we're using, but the short version is this: the window matters more than most people think.
How Long Do Wrinkle Relaxers Last?
Wrinkle relaxers—including Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Daxxify®, which we primarily use at Columbia Shores—temporarily relax targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines like the forehead, frown lines, and crow's feet.
Here's the general duration by product:
Jeuveau® and Dysport®: Most patients see results last 3–4 months. Active patients or those with stronger muscle activity may notice softening on the shorter end.
Daxxify®: A newer, peptide-based neuromodulator that consistently delivers 5–6 months of results for many patients—meaning fewer treatment visits to maintain your look year-round.
First-time patients sometimes notice results fading a bit sooner, while patients who've been consistent over time often find their results stretch longer. This is one of the reasons I always say wrinkle relaxers are a maintenance relationship, not a one-time fix.
Keep in mind: results typically appear 3–7 days after treatment and fully settle by 2 weeks. That two-week window is important when you're planning around events.
How Long Does Filler Last?
Filler longevity depends on the type of product used and the area being treated. At Columbia Shores, we use both hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers and Sculptra® depending on your goals.
Hyaluronic acid fillers (used for lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, under-eyes, and jawline definition):
Lips: 6–12 months
Cheeks and mid-face: 12–18 months
Nasolabial folds and lines: 9–12 months
Jawline and chin: Up to 12–18 months
Sculptra® (our collagen-stimulating, regenerative filler):
Results build gradually over 3–4 months and can last up to 2 years
Best for patients looking for a longer-term rebuild rather than an immediate correction—and not the right choice if you need results before the holidays in the next few weeks
One thing I want patients to understand: filler placement and settling also takes time. Swelling is normal in the first week, and it takes two full weeks for results to fully reflect the final outcome. That two-week buffer before an event is non-negotiable in my book.
Holiday Scheduling: The Timeline That Actually Works
If you want to look your best for a holiday event, here's the scheduling math:
Book at least 2–4 weeks before your event. This allows time for:
Any swelling or bruising to fully resolve
Filler to settle into its final shape
Wrinkle relaxers to fully take effect and smooth naturally
A touch-up appointment if needed (rare, but better to have the option)
Cutting it closer than one week is a risk I don't recommend. While many patients bruise minimally or not at all, we can't predict this in advance—and walking into a holiday party with a bruised lip or a swollen cheek isn't what anyone has in mind.
A Simple Holiday Planning Guide
And if you're already behind? Call us. We'll be honest with you about timing and whether it makes sense to treat now or wait until after. We'd rather help you make a smart decision than rush something that deserves care.
What to Watch Out For: Factors That Affect How Long Results Last
Every face is different, and longevity is influenced by several factors:
Metabolism: Higher metabolic activity (think: frequent high-intensity exercise) can cause wrinkle relaxers to fade faster
Sun exposure and skincare habits: Unprotected sun exposure accelerates collagen breakdown and affects how filler holds over time
Area treated: High-movement areas (like lips) metabolize filler faster than lower-movement areas (like cheeks)
Consistency of treatment: Regular maintenance appointments often extend the longevity of results over time
This is also why pairing injectable treatments with medical-grade skincare and skin-health treatments like our BBL, HALO, or Moxi laser services can improve how your skin holds and responds to treatment over the long run.
A Note on Timing from Me
I tell every patient the same thing: the best time to schedule is before you're staring down a deadline. When you're relaxed about the timing, we can choose the right product, dose conservatively, and let your results develop naturally. When you're rushed, that nuance disappears—and the results can show it.
If you're not sure whether you're due for a touch-up, a new treatment, or just a consultation, that's exactly what we're here for. Holiday season or not.
