Fall Skin Reset: Top Treatments for Texture & Pigment Renewal
Fall Skin Reset: Top Options for Texture + Pigment
By Dr. Bahnmiller, Columbia Shores Regenerative Health
If you've made it through another Eastern Washington summer, your skin has stories to tell. The Tri-Cities sun is relentless—and between the UV exposure, heat, and dryness, even well-protected skin tends to come out of summer with something to address: uneven tone, rough texture, lingering sunspots, or that dull, tired quality that doesn't quite respond to moisturizer.
Fall is, without question, my favorite time of year to treat texture and pigment. UV exposure drops off, the skin is ready to respond to treatment, and patients have time to commit to a protocol before the holidays. If you've been thinking about a reset, now is the moment.
Here's how I approach it.
Understanding the Problem: Texture vs. Pigment
These two concerns often travel together, but they respond to different treatments—or benefit from different combinations.
Texture refers to the surface quality of your skin: rough patches, enlarged pores, acne scarring, fine lines, or an overall lack of smoothness. It's often what makes skin look dull in photos, even when the color looks even.
Pigment refers to tone irregularities: sunspots, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, redness, and the kind of mottled coloring that summers in Eastern Washington tend to accelerate over time.
Good news: many of the treatments we offer address both—and when combined thoughtfully, the results compound.
The Fall Reset Menu
Sciton Moxi + BBL: The Gold Standard Combination
If I had to pick one pairing for fall skin renewal, it's this one. Moxi and BBL together address texture and pigment in a single session, with minimal downtime.
Moxi is a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser that creates micro-coagulation zones beneath the skin's surface. Your body repairs these zones naturally, replacing damaged cells with fresh, healthy ones. The result is improved texture, reduced pore size, and a more even tone—usually with little to no downtime. Most patients are back to their normal routine within 24 hours and can apply makeup the following day.
BBL HERO (BroadBand Light) targets pigment directly. It uses the world's most powerful intense pulsed light to break up sunspots, age spots, irregular coloring, and other pigmented lesions. Beyond the visible results, BBL has been studied for its ability to activate what researchers describe as "youthful genes"—the genes associated with healthier, younger-acting skin. It's not just about how your skin looks; it's about how it's functioning.
Together, Moxi handles the texture layer while BBL clears the color. Most patients see meaningful improvement with 3–4 Moxi sessions and 1–2 BBL treatments, then transition to maintenance.
Sciton Halo: For Deeper Correction
When patients come in with more significant sun damage—deeper lines, more pronounced discoloration, loss of skin quality that's been building for years—I often recommend Halo.
Halo is a hybrid fractional laser that combines two wavelengths in a single treatment: one ablative and one non-ablative. This lets us address both the surface and the deeper dermal layers simultaneously. The result is a more dramatic reset than Moxi alone, with improvement in fine lines, sun damage, pore size, skin laxity, and overall radiance.
Halo requires a bit more downtime than Moxi—typically 5–7 days of peeling and recovery—but for patients who want significant correction without a surgical approach, it's exceptional. Fall is the ideal season for Halo precisely because you can stay out of direct sun during the healing window.
Morpheus8: When Texture Includes Laxity and Scarring
For patients whose texture concerns involve deeper acne scarring, stretch marks, or skin laxity alongside pigment issues, Morpheus8 offers something laser-only options don't.
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to reach the deeper structural layers of the skin. It stimulates collagen and elastin remodeling at a level that resurfaces the surface and tightens from within. It's particularly effective for improving pore size, smoothing acne scarring, softening fine lines, and improving overall skin tone and firmness.
When combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), the regenerative results are even more significant. This is a treatment I recommend for patients who want comprehensive correction rather than isolated tone improvement.
Medical-Grade Skincare: The Foundation That Makes Everything Work Better
Whatever treatment path you choose, the results are only as good as your at-home maintenance. Medical-grade skincare—particularly products with retinoids, antioxidants, and growth factors—primes the skin for treatment, accelerates results, and extends how long those results last.
Fall is also the natural transition point for your skincare routine. As UV index drops, your skin can tolerate more active ingredients, and cellular turnover improves. It's an opportunity worth taking advantage of, especially alongside a treatment protocol.
Which Treatment Is Right for You?
The honest answer: it depends on your skin, your goals, and your tolerance for downtime. As a starting point:
Primarily uneven tone, mild texture, and sunspots with zero downtime → Moxi + BBL
More significant correction in a single treatment, comfortable with a recovery week → Halo
Deeper scarring, laxity, or structural texture issues → Morpheus8 (with or without BBL)
Not sure where to start → A consultation
At Columbia Shores Regenerative Health, we don't do one-size-fits-all treatment plans. Every patient leaves with a protocol designed around their actual skin—not a package. The goal is always the most effective path to the result you're looking for, with a clear picture of what to expect.
If you're ready to take advantage of fall's optimal treatment window, I'd love to help you figure out where to start.
