Non-Surgical Body Contouring: Who It's For and What Results Look Like

By Dr. Bahnmiller, Columbia Shores Regenerative Health

As summer approaches here in the Tri-Cities, one of the most common themes I hear in consultations is some version of the same thing: "I've done the work—I've changed my eating, I've been consistent—but there's still this area that won't budge. Or my skin just isn't keeping up."

That's exactly the space where non-surgical body contouring lives. And the questions I get most often are:

  • What does "body contouring" actually include?

  • Am I even a candidate for this?

  • And what are realistic results—not the marketing version, but what patients actually experience?

Let me answer those directly.

What Non-Surgical Body Contouring Actually Means

"Body contouring" is a broad term, and it means different things at different practices. At Columbia Shores Regenerative Health, our approach to non-surgical body contouring combines two complementary tracks:

  1. Skin tightening and tissue remodeling — addressing laxity, texture, and firmness in specific areas using radiofrequency energy

  2. Medically-guided fat reduction — using evidence-based GLP-1 medications like Semaglutide or Tirzepatide to address stubborn fat from the inside, supported by physician oversight throughout

For some patients, one track is enough. For many, combining both is what produces the most complete result—especially when weight loss has already occurred but the skin hasn't caught up.

Morpheus8: Radiofrequency Body Contouring

Our primary technology for non-surgical skin tightening and body contouring is Morpheus8, an InMode device that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to remodel tissue at a deeper level than surface treatments can reach.

Here's what makes it particularly useful for the body:

  • RF energy heats the deeper layers of skin and fat, triggering your body's own collagen and elastin production

  • Results in firmer, tighter skin—especially in areas that have experienced volume or weight changes

  • Reduces the appearance of skin laxity, texture irregularities, and dimpling

Common treatment areas on the body include:

  • Abdomen and lower belly

  • Inner arms

  • Inner thighs and outer thighs

  • Flanks

  • Knees

Morpheus8 is also the same technology we use for facial contouring and skin tightening—so for patients who are addressing both face and body concerns, there's a natural continuity to the approach.

One important note: Morpheus8 tightens and remodels existing tissue. It works best when the goal is refinement—improving tone and firmness—rather than when significant excess skin or fat reduction is the primary need.

Medically-Guided Weight Loss: The Other Side of Body Contouring

For patients dealing with stubborn fat that hasn't responded to lifestyle efforts, no external device is going to solve the root issue. This is where our Weight Loss and Wellness program fits in.

We offer both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide—two GLP-1 (and GIP) receptor agonist medications that have changed what's possible in medically supported weight management.

Semaglutide works by reducing appetite, slowing gastric motility, and helping your body maintain blood sugar in a fat-burning range. Patients typically notice reduced cravings and a more stable relationship with hunger.

Tirzepatide is a newer dual-action medication that activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Studies suggest it may produce greater weight loss outcomes than Semaglutide alone, with a similarly favorable side effect profile for most patients.

These are not quick fixes or shortcuts—they're physician-supervised tools that work best when combined with intentional nutrition and activity. But for patients who have been genuinely consistent and are still struggling to reach their goals, they can be the missing piece.

What this means for body contouring specifically: as patients lose fat through our weight management program, Morpheus8 and laser treatments can address the skin changes that often follow—keeping the result cohesive rather than leaving laxity behind.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

A consultation will always be the clearest answer, but here's a general framework:

You may be a good candidate for Morpheus8 body contouring if you:

  • Are at or near your goal weight with localized skin laxity or texture concerns

  • Have experienced some volume loss (from weight loss, aging, or postpartum changes) and want to restore firmness

  • Are looking for a no-downtime or low-downtime option with real clinical results

  • Want to complement surgical or weight loss results with skin tightening

You may be a good candidate for our medically-guided weight loss program if you:

  • Have been unable to reach or maintain your goal weight through diet and exercise alone

  • Are dealing with weight gain related to hormonal shifts, aging, or metabolic changes

  • Want physician oversight and a structured, science-based approach to fat loss

  • Are not a candidate for bariatric surgery or prefer a non-surgical path

The combination approach tends to be the right fit if you:

  • Have lost meaningful weight and are now dealing with residual skin laxity

  • Want to address both fat and skin in a coordinated way

  • Are managing weight through our program and want to maximize the aesthetic outcome

What Results Look Like—and When to Expect Them

Morpheus8 Body Tightening Timeline

Morpheus8 stimulates your body's natural collagen remodeling process, which means results build over time rather than appearing immediately.

Immediately after treatment

  • Mild redness, swelling, and warmth in treated areas

  • This is completely normal and typically resolves within a few days

  • Most patients return to normal activity the same day or within 24–48 hours

Weeks 2–4

  • Initial improvement in skin texture begins

  • Some patients notice early tightening; others see subtle changes that build gradually

Months 1–3

  • Collagen remodeling is actively occurring beneath the surface

  • Skin begins to feel firmer and look more toned

  • Texture improvements become more visible

Months 3–6 (Primary Results Window)

  • Full collagen remodeling complete

  • Final result is visible and typically lasts 12–18 months with good skin care habits

  • Many patients choose maintenance treatments once or twice a year

A series of 3 sessions is typically recommended for body treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Single sessions can produce visible improvement, especially for mild laxity.

Medically-Guided Weight Loss Timeline

Weight loss timelines vary based on starting point, dosage progression, lifestyle factors, and the specific medication used.

Weeks 1–4

  • Appetite and cravings typically begin to decrease

  • Some patients notice early weight loss; others are still in the dose titration phase

  • Mild nausea is possible early on and usually resolves as the body adjusts

Months 1–3

  • Most patients begin to see consistent, measurable progress

  • Energy levels and relationship with food often improve alongside weight changes

Months 3–6+

  • Continued loss toward goal weight, with ongoing physician check-ins

  • Discussion of maintenance phase and long-term plan

We work with each patient individually to set realistic expectations, track progress, and adjust the plan as needed throughout. This isn't a one-size-fits-all prescription—it's a relationship.

Combining Approaches for Complete Results

Some of our most satisfied patients aren't the ones who came in for a single treatment. They're the ones who came in with a goal—to feel better in their body going into summer, or to finally address something that had been bothering them for years—and worked with us to build a plan that made sense for where they were starting.

A few common scenarios:

  • Semaglutide or Tirzepatide + Morpheus8: Fat reduction through medically-guided weight loss, followed by skin tightening as results develop

  • Morpheus8 + BBL or Moxi: Body tightening combined with laser skin quality improvement for a more comprehensive refresh

  • Standalone Morpheus8: For patients already at their goal weight who want to address specific areas of laxity or texture

We also have a Membership and Financing program for patients who want to make a multi-treatment plan financially manageable over time.

Our Approach to Body Contouring

The Tri-Cities summers are long and warm—and I want patients to feel genuinely good heading into them, not just like they've had a procedure done. That means being honest in consultations about what will and won't move the needle for a given concern, recommending the right combination of treatments rather than the most, and building results that look like you—just more of what you want.

Not everyone who asks about body contouring needs it. And not everyone who comes in asking about weight loss needs medication. But for patients who are the right fit, the tools we have at Columbia Shores—Morpheus8, Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, and our broader laser menu—give us a lot to work with.

If you're curious about where to start, a consultation is always the right first step. We'll look at your goals, your anatomy, and your history—and give you a clear, honest picture of what's realistic.
