Spotlight: Morpheus8

If you follow us on any social platform, you’ve probably seen us post videos of a treatment called Morpheus8. This handheld device makes weird beeping sounds and can look intimidating, but what is it really?

What is it?

Morpheus8 is a minimally invasive treatment that pairs Microneedling and Radio Frequency, also known as RF, for collagen induction therapy. Essentially, the micro-needles are used to send the RF waves further into the skin. As a result, the small “wounds” created in the skin encourage the skin to heal itself, which results in increased collagen and elastin production. Benefits include the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, texture, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation and acne scarring, and even some fat reduction (realself.com).

What areas can be treated?

One of the really cool things about Morpheus8 is it can be used to treat different areas. The most common areas that we treat are the face and neck, however it can be used almost anywhere, including the abdomen, thighs, and glutes.

Who is it for?

Morpheus8 can be used on many different skin types and tones. It is most often used as a treatment for aging, but it can also be used to help treat scarring and skin texture as well. This treatment is not recommended for people who have acne, as the Microneedling could spread acne causing bacteria. If you’re curious if Morpheus8 is the right treatment for you, talk with your provider to discuss what treatment options are available for you.

How often?

Typically, patients need 1-3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

What does the procedure look like?

Before Morpheus8, topical numbing is applied to the skin. After the allotted amount of time for the numbing has passed, the Morpheus8 treatment is performed. The provider will pass over the area treated a few different times, at different depths for each pass. Afterwards, your provider may also apply a post-procedure cream or serum to help heal the skin. Post treatment, downtime is 1-2 weeks, varying from person to person. Post procedure skin can be red, itchy, and bumpy for about a week after treatment, and results of the treatment are typically seen after 3 months to a year when collagen starts reproducing again.
